Astronomers uncover the longest Tidal Tail and a Nascent Galaxy at its edge

🚀✨ New Galaxy Discovered!

About 430 million light-years away in Leo, astronomers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) and collaborators have spotted an ultra-diffuse galaxy forming at the tip of the longest known tidal tail of galaxy NGC 3785. 🌌

This rare structure—born from gravitational tug-of-war between NGC 3785 and a neighbouring galaxy—offers fresh clues to how galaxies evolve.

In an exclusive chat with ETV Bharat’s Dr. Anubha Jain, IIA’s Dr. Sudhanshu Barway explains the breakthrough. 🔭👩‍🚀
