“Education is the most important asset for women today. With quality education, women can be empowered and become competent to face the challenges and diversity of life”, said veteran actress Sharmila Tagore in Jaipur while attending FICCI FLO talk entitled ‘Power of Choices’ as the chief guest.

Tagore further said, “With focus and dedication if a woman really wants something then surely she can achieve it. But still for the growth of a woman her family and husband”s support is most essential.
“If she gets the respect and understanding from her partner then she can touch the pinnacle of success. A woman devotes her care and affection in the family likewise a man also should share that care.”
She also stressed upon the fact that one must follow one’s heart in life. Citing her own example, she said it was not easy for her to take up a career in film in those times but she stuck to her decision.
She said now more woman-centric movies are coming like Neerja and Piku and in our time we didn”t get roles like that.
While replying to a questions on choosing direction as a career, she referred to an NGO “Katha” which translates various short stories from different regional languages into English. In early 90s, this idea clicked to my mind and I wanted to shoot those stories in serials. However, with more digitisation I realised people were not much interested in those serials. And connect with our 80 percent younger generation is bit difficult and tricky.
Apart from that, I have always given preference to my family so I didn”t take production or direction as a career.
Former FICCI FLO national president Neeta Boochra, chairperson of Jaipur chapter, Preeti Saboo, with over 400 members of FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation), in a chat with Sharmila Tagore, touched upon various issues relating to the quality of music, technology, family support and social media in the current scenario. l Mrs Tagore further said while discussing empowerment of woman issue that “With focus and dedication if a woman really wants something then surely she can achieve it. But still for the growth of a woman her family and husband”s support is most essential.
